Breakfast Clubs
West Lothian Council extended the free breakfast provision to all pupils in primary schools who want a breakfast.
Breakfast is also free to those entitled to free school meals in secondary schools. This started when the pupils returned on the 20th August 2013.
In Secondary Schools pupils entitled to free school meals will have a breakfast provision allowance included on their National Entitlement Card (NEC)/Young Scot Card which should be spent that morning. All other secondary pupils can purchase the same breakfast for 57p.
Executive Councillor for Education, Lawrence Fitzpatrick said: "Breakfast clubs are already successfully running in most schools in West Lothian, and this investment will allow us to ensure that many more pupils can access a free healthy breakfast to set them up for the rest of the school day."
"We would encourage parents and carers to make good use of the free service by sending their children to their local breakfast club, which are proven to have a number of benefits for young people in areas such as attainment, behaviour, confidence and social skills."
