Proposal to review Denominational Secondary School Catchments in the North West of West Lothian

The consultation is now open.

Proposal

West Lothian Council's Education Executive at its meeting on 14 January 2025 authorised Education Services to commence statutory consultation on the proposal to alter the denominational secondary school catchment areas of:

  • Sinclair Academy
  • St Margaret's Academy
  • St Kentigern's Academy

Statutory Consultation

In terms of the Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010 (the Act), any proposed changes to a school estate in this case, a review of admission arrangements arising from school catchment area variations requires a Statutory Public Consultation.

The Consultation involves all key stakeholders and statutory consultees as detailed in Schedule 2 of the Act, this includes parents/carers/children and staff of Sinclair Academy, St Margaret's Academy, and St Kentigern's Academy.

Consultation Period

The public consultation period relating to the proposal is now open. The consultation period runs from Monday 17 February 2025 until Friday 04 April 2025.  This timescale adheres to the statutory consultation period for such circumstances which is a minimum of 6 consecutive weeks and include at least 30 school days. A public meeting to discuss the consultation document will be held at:

  • St Margaret's Academy  |  Monday 3 March 2025  |  Time: 7-8pm

Report on the Consultation

Once the consultation closes reports by West Lothian Council and Education Scotland will be published here in Spring 2025.


Decision

A decision will be made by West Lothian Council Education Executive on 24 June 2025.
