Educational Psychology Service

The Educational Psychology Service works to improve the wellbeing and educational outcomes of all children and young people in West Lothian through the application of psychology in practice.

Our service is an innovative and dynamic service, committed to improving the wellbeing and educational achievements of children and young people within West Lothian. We work mainly through schools and nurseries, with each establishment having a link Educational Psychologist. We work with others who are trying to help children and young people make the most of their lives. We will always seek the views of parents/carers, children and young people. Using our knowledge of psychology, child development, learning and education we provide support, training and advice.

Our vision is to improve the wellbeing and educational outcomes of all children and young people in West Lothian through the application of Psychology in practice.

We aim to achieve this by:

Placing the needs of children and young people at the centre of everything we do
Identifying and addressing barriers to learning
Working collaboratively with our partners
Building capacity at individual and systemic levels
Operating within a context of continual improvement

Service Development

The Educational Psychology Service is committed to maintaining ongoing service development. Our Service Improvement Plan outlines our key activities for the year. It is directly linked to both the National Improvement Framework and How Good Is Our School 4 to demonstrate impact.

Overall, we continually work to ensure that the children and young people of West Lothian receive a high quality, evidence-based Educational Psychology Service that is responsive to need and to the demands of our continually changing educational landscape.
